Our services are centered around what students need to develop the skills and knowledge to realize the opportunities and responsibilities of active citizenship.

The resources we provide students and their school communities focus on the student experience and efficacy of our programs.  Our website will act as a central database of scoped and sequenced curriculum and organizing materials that educators, students, and community leaders can access to inform and engage their communities.  There are five main components to our services and resources:
CIVIC FOUNDATIONS

Separation of Powers
Public Policy

Civic Foundations ensure that students have the background needed to apply concepts.  Instruction in government, history, law, and democracy is integrated with discussions of controversial topics and current events.  Included with this component are unit with interactive lessons that over 20th century American history, from the Industrial Revolution to the Cold War to current domestic strife.  Students use the past to inform the present and tackle the challenges of today.

The Moving Mural Project
Civic Life is an organizing tool for students to contribute to the civic life of their school communities.  This section allows students to take an active role in school and community governance through the formation and participation in students-led activities, such as civic action committees, peer juries, and town hall meetings.  Students are placed in leadership roles to address the concerns of their populations, and develop civic skills and dispositions.
AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENTS
Civic Portfolios
Applied Connections
Structured Discussions
History and Civics Aligned
Document-Based Questions
Authentic Assessments are tool for students, schools, and program administrators to determine the impact of our collective efforts.  Students are provided a variety of opportunities to exhibit evidence of their capabilities. School facilitators and administrators use this evidence to guide instruction and collaborate with program administrators for the development of materials that accommodate to the needs of individual schools.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Professional Development
Program Evaluation
Curriculum Development
Strategic Planning
Our Program Development component provides program coordinators with training to implement our curriculum and motivate their students to engage in the process.  We create and modify curriculum and program materials based on the needs of students, schools, program coordinators, and program objectives.  Evaluations are conducted on a quarterly basis to coincide with academic and behavioral reports generated by partner schools.  Our team works with schools to develop a strategic plan to engage their populations to have the biggest impact.

Our target districts are ones with populations that are underrepresented and disenfranchised to activate the power of their voice.

Our board of directors has developed criteria that favors schools and communities with diverse and low-income populations that struggle with a lack of resources and civic engagement to have the biggest impact.  Schools and communities with the following criteria will be prioritized based on our funding to be given full access to our website at no cost:
  • >40 percent of the student body is eligible to receive free or reduced priced lunches
  • >40 percent of the student body come from ethnic groups that is typically underrepresented on college campuses.
  • Formal commitment to complete and submit evaluations and data to help SRN gauge the efficacy of our programs and improve our efforts.
