We develop and amplify student
Young people play a vital role in sustaining our democracy and moving our country forward.A democracy in which our local, state, and federal governments will only be as responsive and good as citizens demand them to be. It is essential that each generation understands our democratic processes, and applies this understanding to influence those processes.
Students are a force for change, and need to know how to make their voices heard so that they can be part of the solution to address issues that impact their communities. |
Theory of ChangeSystemic changes that improve public education and increase democratic accountability can occur by expanding or transforming the way civics education is taught in schools. School is the one universal experience that can prepare entire generations to be active citizens. The return on our investments in public education should not only be measured in terms of educational attainment standards, but it should also be gauged by how well the next generation of Americans are prepared to take the reins of our democratic system and protect the values that solidify our society. |
Our Approach
We provide access to robust nonpartisan civics curriculum tools that incorporate best practice approaches identified by the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) and cited by the U.S. Department of Education, and organizing tools to empower young people to mobilize their communities and affect change. We put students in leadership roles to address the concerns of their populations, and develop the skills and dispositions for sustained civic participation. There are six main components we use to engage our stakeholders:
CIVIC FOUNDATIONSEnsures that students have the background needed for application.
AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENTSTools used to determine the direct impact on our ambassadors.
|
CIVIC ACTIONPrepares students to advocate for causes that are important to them.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENTThe training needed to implement our curriculum and programs.
|
CIVIC LIFEStudents take on leadership roles in their schools and communities.
HISTORY CURRICULUMThematic social studies curriculum with a focus on American history.
|
There are promising results from students that have been exposed to civic experiences. Our civic engagement tools have had a significant impact on the civic dispositions and behaviors of students at schools that have adopted our approach. These students are instilled with a commitment to take an active role in their school communities, and know how to make their voices heard. |
